An assault rifle is a weapon defined by the use of an "intermediate" caliber, ie whose power is greater than a handgun caliber, but lower than a "classic" infantry rifle caliber, ie the kind of caliber used during the first two world wars. Among them are the following calibers which are (or were) commonly used (in chronological order): 7.92x33 Kurz, 7.62x39, 5.56x45, 5.45x39, 9x39, 5.8x42 and the .300 ACC. An assault rifle has, by definition, the ability to fire in bursts (free, limited or both). However, some people consider the semi-automatic weapons whose rest of the characteristics are identical like an "FA". As always, each will make an opinion.
